The main event

The focus of the celebrations will be the weekend of St Luke’s-tide (Fri 16 - Sun 18 Oct)

We hope that old friends may travel to Christchurch for a weekend of festivities, culminating in the Festal Eucharist on Sunday 18 October 2009.

Throughout the year

The planning group is working on a calendar of events, celebrations and gatherings. Ideas and suggestions for celebratory events are welcome - only those events will be planned for which there is material and bodily support.

Music

With St Luke’s fine organ and acoustic we hope that the 150th will be marked with a range of musical events throughout 2009.

Entrance porch

The plan for the entrance porch is currently before the Historic Places Trust and the Christchurch City Council.

We intend the porch to be completed and blessed on St Luke’s Day 2009. To achieve that objective substantial fundraising will be required, both parish fundraising as well as external sources.

Memorial garden and landscaping

The first stage in the landscaping plan was completed in 2007, the installation of exterior lighting. The memorial garden and landscaping works will be undertaken after the completion of the entrance porch.

Conservation

The Conservation Plan highlighted the necessity for gutter repairs. The works have now been commenced and will be completed before the winter rains.

Connecting With Friends

In the 150th year we would like to share the celebration with all those who have been blessed by St Luke’s – parishioners, choirs, those married and baptised, the many former groups - as well with our contemporary neighbours in homes and businesses in this part of the city. Can you help us make contact?

150th Celebrations Prayer

O Living and Life-Giving God,
your blessed witness Luke the Evangelist
has inspired generations of your faithful people
to work for the gospel in this part of our city.
So give us a thirst for your truth,
a passion for your justice,
a strength in our witness,
and a firm hope in the future you open before us;
that we may celebrate with joy
the saving death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.
Amen
